For a lot of North Haven, CT Jeep® customers, the Jeep Wrangler is the reason they feel in love with the brand in the first place, which goes a long way toward explaining why so many people are so excited about the forthcoming release of a completely-redesigned, next-generation Jeep Wrangler due to arrive at Executive Dodge Jeep sometime over the course of the next year. There are several different things worth looking forward to in this redesigned icon, but one of the most notable improvements looks like it will come by way of reduced weight and improved fuel efficiency.
In a recent interview with Automotive News, Jeep CEO Mike Manley talked a bit about what we can expect along those lines in the new Jeep Wrangler, making sure to stipulate that whatever they did to make these changes would not affect the integrity of the vehicle’s design.
“You have to be very careful with the [aerodynamic design] of Wrangler, because at the end of the day, it needs to be recognizable as a Wrangler,” he said. “To some extent that restricts you on some of the aero that you can do.”
In other words, customers love the tall, boxy design of the rugged SUV, so sloping back the windshield or tail end too much to improve efficiency could affect aesthetics. To avoid that, Jeep instead is focusing on dropping weight and making other minute changes to achieve higher efficiency numbers.
